The Challenger Society for Marine Science

We are the foremost learned society representing the UK academic marine research community.

The Marine Facilities Advisory Board (MFAB) advises the National Oceanography Centre on marine facilities and services, including the Natural Environment Research Council’s National Marine Equipment Pool (NMEP), the British Oceanographic Data Centre and the British Ocean Sediment Core Research Facility.

MFAB is seeking members for two new working groups that will contribute to national strategy and future investment. These voluntary positions, starting from January 2026, offer exciting opportunities to gain experience in science governance, and collaborate with leading scientists and technical experts across the UK.
