This special interest group provides a focal point for the UK marine science community to discuss recent multidisciplinary research into coastal ocean and shelf sea processes and to plan future research directions. It encompasses all marine science disciplines (including physics, biogeochemistry, marine biology, sedimentology and geology), from estuaries through to the continental shelf break. We actively encourage contributions from observational marine scientists, numerical modellers, remote sensing scientists, and applied researchers.
How can you get involved? To be included on the Coastal and Shelf Seas SIG mailing list, contact Charlotte Williams.
Upcoming Activities
A meeting of the Challenger Society of Marine Science Coastal and Shelf Seas (CaSS) Special Interest Group will be held at the National Oceanography Centre (Liverpool) on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, 09:30 – 16:30. The meeting will also be hybrid for those who cannot make it in person. This will be a CaSS SIG Christmas Symposium, and will be a great opportunity to bring together CaSS scientists, engineers and practitioners from across the UK with mince pies (and possibly mulled wine).
The meeting will take the form of short presentations and posters on any current and upcoming research/projects, followed by time for discussion on potential collaborations.
The meeting is free to attend, please contact chwill@noc.ac.uk if you would like to attend in person/virtually.
We look forward to seeing you in Liverpool/virtually in December!
