Chris is a physical oceanographer at the University of East Anglia (UEA) working on the eSWEETS3 project. His research interests focus on using autonomous vehicles to investigate changes in mixing and stratification in seasonally stratified seas. The eSWEETS project investigates these changes around floating offshore wind turbines using both glider measurements and high-resolution modelling.
Chris graduated with an MSci in Physics from Imperial College London (2019) and went on to study for a PhD in physical oceanography at the University of Southampton and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) (2025). His research focussed on changes to Antarctic Bottom Water using long term moorings, alongside idealised modelling, within a major export pathway of the Weddell Sea. During his PhD, Chris completed a research placement at Stanford University as well as a placement within the BAS communications team. He joined UEA in February 2025 working Dr. Rob Hall.
Alongside his research, Chris is very active in outreach, from organising local school visits to large events at national museums. He was also a BAS student representative, raising student concerns and issues to the senior management teams as well as organising the annual student symposium.
