The Challenger Society for Marine Science

We are the foremost learned society representing the UK academic marine research community.

Help Primary Focus shape a more diverse future for marine science!

Current ethnic diversity in marine science poorly reflects the diversity of the communities they serve, and we want to change that.

We envision a future where primary children of all backgrounds can:

  • Recognise what they can offer to marine science,
  • Aspire to be part of it, and
  • Be supported in finding the pathways into marine science.

Primary Focus has built a Theory of Change (ToC) – a one-page roadmap setting out the InputsActivitiesOutputsOutcomes, and Impacts to progress (and measure development) towards our long-term goal. This was co-developed with primary educators, ocean researchers, and engagement specialists from national organisations across STEM education, marine research and industry.

Now, we need your input to make it stronger. If you share our passion for widening participationinspiring young people and strengthening the future marine workforce, please take a few minutes to tell us what works, what’s missing and what could be clearer: Primary Focus ToC – Feedback Form
