The Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN) are excited to invite you to a one-day, in-person training workshop on MEDIN Marine Data Management held during the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) Annual Science Meeting (ASM).
Date: Thursday 20th November 2025
Location: Technology & Innovation Centre, 99 George Street, Glasgow, G1 1RD United Kingdom
This workshop is ideal for graduate and postgraduate students, marine researchers, technicians, and industry professionals who want to strengthen their data management skills and learn best practices for sharing and reusing marine environmental data. No prior experience is required.
You will learn:
· How to create a Data Management Plan and apply MEDIN guidelines to build consistent, shareable datasets with comprehensive metadata.
· The role of metadata and controlled vocabularies throughout the data lifecycle – from collection and management to publication and reuse.
· How to accurately describe and represent marine data, including geospatial content, using MEDIN standards and tools like the online metadata editor.
· Why good data governance reduces costs and risks, and how repurposing data adds long-term value across science, policy, and industry.
We have designed interactive practical assignments inspired by the lost city of Atlantis as a playful, hands-on way to apply your new skills and make data management fun!
Spaces are limited, so secure your spot and join us for a day of learning, networking, and data-driven adventure.
