Dr Gillian Damerell

Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, and Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, Bergen, Norway

Chair of EDIA working group

2022-present

Gillian is a postdoctoral researcher at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, in Norway, and formerly at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.  She is a physical oceanographer interested in ocean mixing and turbulence, including internal waves and lee waves generated at topography, wind- and buoyancy flux-driven surface mixing, temporal variability in vertical mixing and finescale parameterizations, i.e., using lower resolution data to estimate turbulent mixing rates.  She has worked extensively with ocean gliders and autonomous surface vehicles.  Gillian is also passionate about improving equality, diversity, inclusivity and accessibility in marine science, and has been a member of the EDIA working group since its founding in 2021.
