Angela Colling

Ex-Open University

Ex-officio Founder Editor of Ocean Challenge

1987-present

After studying Oceanography at Liverpool University, Angela worked on science publications at Cambridge University Press.  In 1976 she moved to the Geology (later Earth Sciences) Department at the Open University, which was beginning work on its first multidisciplinary Oceanography course. Over her time at the OU she wrote course books for the Oceanography course and other courses in marine and Earth Science disciplines.

In  October 1987 Angela was wondering about continuing to learn about developments in marine science by starting an oceanography publication, which by chance was also something being considered by the Challenger Society. At an event at IOS Wormley, Angela and her colleague and partner John Wright (who became the Associate Editor of Ocean Challenge) were invited to a discussion led by Sir Anthony Laughton, and Ocean Challenge was born.
